SQL 2005 32 bit – can it work with 64 bit Oracle client?

Our test server is a 64 bit Windows Server 2003. So far our SQL 2005 32 bit version is running fine. However, we are having problem with the Oracle client. Installation of 32 bit Oracle client failed at the very end when configuring the Net Assistant. We had to uninstall the 32 bit version of the Oracle client, and installed the 64 bit version. The installation was successful, and the net assistant was configured, and the tnsnames.ora file in folder NETWORK\ADMIN was all setup correctly.

TNSPING the_server_name was also successful.

I believe we need the provider of “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers” for the linked server to work. Or should we use the Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle, which is the Oracle Provider for OLE DB.
