Report Model Project – All About Data Source

When deploying a report model, setting up the data source is an important step.

In the report model project below, dsEAMPC is the data source I set up in BIDS. It uses Windows Integration Authentication to access the database.

On the report server, Windows Integration Authentication does not seem to work. Here is how I set up the data source that finally worked.

In BIDS, set up the project property as below. For the first time deployment, I will allow overwritting of the data source. After this, change the OverwriteDataSource to False.

Then deploy the report model to the report server. The data source dsEAMPC will be automatically created on the Report Server under the folder EAM Data Source.

Go to the Report Server, and make the following changes to the data source:

In the Connection string textbox, remove Integrated Security=True, then select “Credentials stored securely in the report server”, and enter the appropriate user name and password. This credential is usually a batch login, created specifically for reporting.
