SSRS – Merged Cells

When exporting a SSRS report to Excel, many cells are merged. There are ways in reporting service to somehow minimize the merged cells, but none of them are very effective. Microsoft team is working on it I believe.

For our users, here is a simple way for them to sort their data in Excel.

Remove the header rows first

To un-merge cell:

Ctrl+A (this is to select all data range)

Ctrl+1 (this is to open the Alignment tab in Format Cells menu)

Uncheck the Merge Cells

To AutoFit the Columns and Rows:

Ctrl+A (this is to select all data range)

Alt+ O C A (this is to AutoFit the selected columns)

Alt+ O R A (this is to AutoFit the selected rows)

Then to sort the data:

Sort from the Data tab
